Description:
discussing the Manga "Naruto" among grown-up persons
Update:
This is or was a community that discussed the manga Naruto. It was started in 2007, at the time when Sasuke had defeated Deidara, and since then we have done chapter reviews for every chapter except chapter 691. We discussed what was going on, and there have been a couple of fierce discussions mainly about the Uchiha massacre, though with time this became a community for people who think that murdering the Uchiha clan was a crime. So you may see this as a safe place for people who believe that it was a crime.

You can find important tags in the top right corner of the profile. Have a look at "essays", "chapter reviews" and so on. I must admit that when the manga went downhill during its final years, I was no longer cared so much about the tags, and the most recent chapter reviews aren't tagged. Maybe I will change that at some point.

I have changed the comment settings so that everyone may comment. Comments not from LJ users will be screened first, so that I can read them before I unscreen them. If you show some reasonable politeness I will unscreen them however. I have always been proud that this was a place where people might come and disagree, and I will keep it this way.

Naruto For Adults

This community has the purpose to discuss the Manga "Naruto" in a serious way among grown-up persons who are old enough to have children the age of the Manga's heroes. The purpose is not to swoon for twelve-year-old kids (except saying "oh, how cute are they!") and not to fall in love with them, realizing that they are still too young for it, but to seriously discuss their psychology, their motivations, the deeper meaning of the manga - well, and sometimes perhaps make some jokes about Sasuke's open shirt.

Naruto for adults
Who we are

This community has the purpose to discuss the Manga "Naruto" in a serious way among grown-up persons who are old enough to have children the age of the Manga's heroes. The purpose is not to swoon for twelve-year-old kids (except saying "oh, how cute are they!") and not to fall in love with them, realizing that they are still too young for it, but to seriously discuss their psychology, their motivations, the deeper meaning of the manga - well, and sometimes perhaps make some jokes about Sasuke's open shirt.
Our motto :)

"It's tough to be a thirty fortysomething Naruto fan. You get strange looks from adults when you don't know what's going on in Desperate Housewives but you do know who's matched up against whom in the Chunin exams. Children and teenagers might think it's cool that you have a Rock Lee pin on your backpack, but then they turn around and make fun of you for liking Rock Lee (Kids can be so cruel!)."
A.E. Sparrow wrote this in a review for Naruto Vol. 13, but we could have written this too. Well, except that Rock Lee pin of course :)

Rules

Being human, we love it if people compliment us and agree to us. Still we would think that we are doing something wrong if we no longer get any comments that disagree to our opinions. We will try to answer them rationally, using arguments to defend our own opinion, and sometimes, when your arguments are good, we will even change our own opinions. Rational criticism will make us happy and will also make us consider inviting you to join. So we want to encourage you to do your best and criticize us as intelligently as you can.

More Rules

We intend this to be a place for serious discussion (with the occasional wink of the eye). Please avoid slang or rudeness: Adult and Mature does not mean that you can use NC-17 words. Also be careful with the use of fannish abbreviations: A lot of people (us, the maintainers included) are not deeply involved in fandom and don't know how to translate them.

Opinions diverge. Of course we are all convinced that we are in the right and all who disagree are horribly misguided (I am too), still it is important to respect your fellow disputants, be polite and give sound arguments to support your point of view. (The best way to show that you are right and the others are wrong.)

Be aware that we still have many more readers than writers, so do your best to write in a way that reading your contributions (comments or entries) is a pleasure. A lot of you joined the place because you thought it a place of sanity and rationality - help to make it stay like this!

On Membership

When eowyn_unquendor and myself created this community, it was mostly to have fun among ourselves and spare our respective f-lists our discussions of Naruto. After some time however, I grew vain and wanted my chapter reviews to be read by a wider audience (thanks go to zapenstap whose essays at chuunin encouraged me to post my own essays), which meant that we got a wider audience, for our own chapter reviews, for the essays, but also for the fanservice we offer (mostly for Sasuke-fangirls).

We were a bit insecure what to do about membership. We have been active on forums and at LJ for quite some time, and we both had our share of internet drama (eowyn_unquendor is better at avoiding it than I am) and we wanted to avoid it. Also, we don't have any rules. We are friends, and we trust each other to behave. So at first we were rather careful and distrusting, but now we have become more open and invited some people to our community.

So this is how to become a member: You write a lot of comments, avoid drama (neither begin it, nor add to it) and after some time we will invite you to join. The other way is that you comment a lot, avoid drama, and if you think you want to contribute something you apply for membership.

We don't expect you to agree to everything we say, but if you disagree you should do it in a polite and rational manner, and also, you should not feel insulted if we don't change our opinion just because you contradict us. We are however ready to listen to well-founded arguments.

We have considered setting the community to "closed membership", but we have decided against it, as about half of the people whom we send an invite don't just simply accept it but instead send a request to join, which I will approve accordingly.
